Issue 38: Spectacle
Skye Gellmann is an Australian artist whose practice shifts between stage, installation, site-specific and image-based work. Skye’s work focuses on a sense of emotional reality, relating to places, objects and people. He questions if circus can communicate in ways beyond spectacle and has created nine contemporary performances that examine this. Skye’s performance works have gone on to achieve numerous accolades including: 2018 Melbourne Fringe’s Original New Circus; 2015 Greenroom Award for Innovation in Contemporary Circus; Melbourne Fringe’s Best Experimental Performance; 2011 Adelaide Fringe’s Best Circus; 2010 Sydney Fringe’s Best Physical Theatre; 2008 Melbourne Fringe’s Most Outstanding Production; 2007 Melbourne Fringe’s Best Circus.
