Sidney McMahon’s practice results from an ongoing and intense exploration of their personal experiences. Through this investigation comes work that spans video, sculpture, drawing and performance. These components are usually moulded together as a response to a particular emotional space McMahon recalls and the work is always responsive to the physical space it is presented in. Being interested in technological interfaces and the ultimate subjectivity of how they, and society at large interact with such, McMahon engages technologists to create work that is at the forefront of new media. Their work is tender and poetic yet at times raw and confronting in its honesty. For recent projects McMahon has worked with robotics, coders, architects and composers. The community around their emotional and physical spaces where they work are an important and critical aspect of their methodology. Alongside their solo practice McMahon presents an ongoing series of actions with collaborators who work in live performance and choreography.
They have shown nationally and internationally in solo, group and curatorial projects in various galleries including, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery (NSW), Clearview Ltd (LDN), Open Source Gallery (NY), Auto Italia (LDN), Outer Space (QLD), Raygun (QLD), ACE Open (SA), ACCA (VIC), Success (WA), and Verge Gallery (NSW).
