Melanie Jame Wolf makes work under the name Savage Amusement, sometimes solo, sometimes with friends. This work is always performance based, often invites participation, and increasingly incorporates video and the screen as performance objects or spaces.
Melanie Jame makes work about love, gender, economies, and ghosts of many forms. As Savage Amusement, she has presented work in various contexts including: Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art; Hebbel Am Ufer; Sophiensaele; Hitparaden Festival of Performance Art & New Theatre; & FOLA – Festival of Live Art. In January 2015 she premiered the solo performance work, MIRA FUCHS at Tanztage Berlin. A work drawing on her 8 years of working as a dancer in a Gentleman's Club in Melbourne. This piece has since been programmed for presentation in multiple festivals in the UK, Europe andcAustralia. Melanie Jame has developed works at a number of residencies including: Underbelly Arts Lab & Festival, Sydney; Esitystaiteen Keskus, Helsinki & The Parlour Showrooms, Bristol. She holds a Master of International Performance Research from University of Helsinki and lives and works between Melbourne & Berlin. She is a feminist. Melanie Jame is also a member of Triage. Working with this company since 2008, she presented the Green Room Award nominated one-to-one performance work, An Appointment with J Dark at Arts House, Melbourne in 2012. Triage are currently working on the 2014-16 European Cultural Commission curatorial project HOTEL OBSCURA.
