Runway: Issue 50: Correspondence

Correspondence asks how we reach toward each other across geographies, time, and memory. In an era of dislocation and technological saturation, how do we maintain lines of connection and care? When does connection operate as an act of survival? What forms of attention allow us to listen deeply to another?

In correspondence with WORM’s Issue 11: Faith and Spirituality, we are also interested in pitches that will consider: 

• How do gendered expectations shape our access to the divine, and how might writing itself become a form of communion?

• When excluded from formal religious hierarchies, how do women, queer people, and others create their own sacred spaces of correspondence. 

• What does worship, prayer, or ritual look like under patriarchy, capitalism, and ecological collapse?

• In a world that can feel increasingly disenchanted, how do we locate meaning, and where do our letters, offerings, and invocations travel?

• What happens when we commune with place, ecology, and time?

Worms is a pioneering, female-led print publishing platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of writers marginalised within the literary world. With a deep commitment to underground and independent publishing, they provide a vital space for bold, experimental, and boundary-pushing creative expression.

Rooted in a mission to challenge the exclusivity of traditional publishing, Worms actively seeks to elevate writers whose work exists at the intersections of multiple identities and lived experiences. This includes those shaped by class, race, cultural background, disability, and gender. By fostering a vibrant and inclusive literary community – both in London and beyond – they not only provide a platform for underrepresented voices but also work to redefine the literary landscape itself, ensuring it reflects the richness and complexity of the world we live in.

Runway Journal is a free, open-access digital publication that cultivates critical, bold and experimental practice. We commission artistic and written works that respond to current ideas in Australian and international contemporary art.
