For this issue, Runway commissioned eight artists to create new moving image work in response to and in collaboration with the work of the 2018 Keir Choreographic Awards semi finalists. Seven of these works are presented here, in order of the KCA semi final performances:
Tristan Jalleh x Bhenji Ra
Denis Beaubois x Branch Nebula
Nana Biluš Abaffy x Nana Biluš Abaffy
Angela Tiatia x Amrita Hepi
Emile Zile x Lilian Steiner
Pamela Arce x Luke George
Leyla Stevens x Melanie Lane
The final work, Long Distance Accumulation by Laura Hindmarsh in collaboration with Patricia Wood, is a live instagram work and will appear on Runway’s instagram between the 8th-17th of March. Watch here.
Long-Distance Accumulation is an exercise in sharing choreography remotely. Taking as its starting point Trisha Brown’s Accumulation (1971) the work will develop as a series of gestures transmitted and accumulated daily between artist Laura Hindmarsh and dancer Patricia Wood, using the platform of Runway’s instagram account. Relayed across opposing hemispheres and timezones, the geographic and temporal distance between bodies directs how the work is made, mediated and experienced.
