Make or Break, an ongoing collaboration between Sydney artists Connie Anthes and Rebecca Gallo, has engaged an approved valuer under the Australian Cultural Gifts Program to undertake a formal valuation of Make or Break Studio (2015-). Make or Break Studio is a live art project that explores the role and visibility of artist labour, audiences and collectors in the generation of artworks and art market value. It is an ephemeral work, with the principal materials being time, labour and generosity.

The following brief was provided to the valuer, and the final valuation is valid for 180 days from the date of valuation (14 October 2016).

A buyer of Make or Break Studio receives the following:

• Right to commission the artists to stage the work once every 5 years until one artist’s death, on condition that the artists are paid a wage for their labour time, with travel expenses if applicable
• Furnishings, which includes: the original tool wall; workbench; 2 sawhorses and 1 chair used in the first iteration of Make or Break Studio
• One edition of archival materials (3 + 2APs), which includes: a special edition hard cover Make or Break Studio artist book; a stop-motion HD video documenting entire Make or Break Studio 2015 exhibition at Firstdraft (on USB); and an original unframed drawing depicting Google image search results for ‘artist studio’ at time of artwork purchase.
