Runway is one of the only remaining independent, critical art journals that supports early-career, experimental contemporary artists and writers in Australia. Since 2003, Runway has established itself as a platform for mentorship and development and has played a pivotal role in springboarding the careers of successful contemporary artists and writers working today.
We do this by facilitating the production of new works on a paid commission basis. These commissioned works are produced with the guidance of a board of experienced art professionals, and published online three times a year in our journal issues.
Issue #39 OCEANS guest edited by Sydney-based artist Athena Thebus will bring together a variety of artists and play a pivotal role in the development of their individual practices. These contemporary voices include: Hannah Bronte, Bhenji Ra, Holly Childs, Tristan Jalleh and Andrew Brooks and many more, who will be contributing text-based, video, music and poetic works to be published online.
As the pool for arts funding becomes increasingly smaller, the support for not-for-profit organisations like Runway is more vital than ever. Runway’s focus has always been on providing paid opportunities for experimental and underrepresented artists, curators and writers – ensuring equal pay for content regardless of career stage.
We are now raising funds to publish and launch Runway Issue #39 OCEANS guest edited by Athena Thebus. Your support will keep our organisation afloat during a period of transition and result in the publication of a very exciting and timely issue. These funds will continue to provide platforms for diverse, emerging voices in contemporary experimental art.
We are reaching out to you – our readers, our supporters, and our past contributors – to help us produce, publish and pay the artists and writers featured in Runway Issue #39 OCEANS. Contributions of any amount toward our campaign of $6,000 would be greatly appreciated. All donations will cover artist/writer fees and assist in an event launch for this issue.
