Issue 25: Money
Sarah Goffman has been exhibiting regularly since 1992, since graduating from the National Art School, and has shown extensively around Australia and overseas. In the past she was co-director of Elastic Projects, founded in 2000, as well as Firstdraft gallery. Her work centers around site-specific projects and installation with mixed media; predominantly using trash and found objects which she transforms and re-contextualises focusing on consumer exchanges and duty. She also writes and performs as Lucy the psychiatrist from the cartoon “Peanuts”. Her most recent performance work includes Fat Massage at The Cube as part of Free Fall in 2014, and Oki-do yoga at the Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the Workout 2013 series of performances.
Her exhibition history is varied, with solo projects Plastici at Penrith Regional Gallery in 2012, Intercourse at Peloton Gallery in 2011 and Trashcan Dreams at Performance Space in 2010 being highlights. She has participated in well over one hundred group shows, all with unfunded new work. In the past year she has shown at Marrickville Garage, Gregory’s shop windows, Artereal Gallery, Fairfield City Gallery, a solo project in Kandos, NSW, Microparks Erskineville, Carriageworks, 55 Sydenham Road, The Commercial and McLemoi Galleries, Sydney College of the Arts, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Gallery 9 and Damien Minton Gallery.
She has been awarded residencies in Japan through Asialink, the Australia Council and Performance Space and works with a group of dancers based in Tokyo.
She is currently undertaking a Doctorate of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong and her work can be found if you Google her name.
