Nina Buchanan
Nina Buchanan is a producer and composer creating at the intersection of club music, exploratory synthesis, and soundtrack composition, examining the potential for music and sound to engage with the emotional undercurrents of our collective experiences. Her debut album Restless Abandon channels the intensity and euphoria of dance music while shedding its usual linearity, a reflection of her own particular methodology of constructing sounds and arrangements.
Nina has played for a wide range of storied institutions across the country, with performances for The Substation, Asia Topa, Liquid Architecture, Carriageworks, MESS Synthesizer Orchestra at Sidney Myer Music Bowl and composition work featured at Rising Festival, DARK MOFO, MONA FOMA, ACCA, and Arts House. Nina is currently doing a Masters of Composition at Monash University, researching human-machine collaboration and science fiction mythology in electronic music.
Anna Helme
Mx. Anna Helme is a moving image maker, technologist, interdisciplinary artist and academic - teaching and researching at the VCA School of Film and Television, University of Melbourne. Anna was involved in pioneer internet streaming channel www.piratetv.net and the Indymedia movement of open-source software and open-publishing in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Anna co-founded EngageMedia, an Asia-Pacific non-profit focusing on social-justice and environmental video, training, network-development, digital rights and open-source technology, in 2005. Anna has project-managed development of two major open-source video platforms (Plumi, MediaCMS) and an open-education project for University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Institute for Multimedia Literacy (www.criticalcommons.org). Anna makes documentary, narrative, experimental and hybrid moving image works for screen and installation. Anna's research is currently focused on queer moving image makers' filmmaking methodologies.
