WHAT: Runway Australian Experimental Art is an online journal produced by The Invisible Inc., an artist run initiative that aims to promote the activities of Australian artists, writers and curators both nationally and abroad. Runway is positioned as an Australian experimental art journal, and increasingly our content explores the possibilities of publishing and art practice within the digital realm, alongside supporting more traditional approaches to the idea of artistic experimentation and text that provokes conversation and critical engagement with contemporary art.
The Board of Runway help to produce three thematic digital issues a year for which we commission new artwork, writing, reviews and ideas, and accompany with a physical launch somewhere around the country with performances, talks or just a good rollicking party. We have also just begun to facilitate a regular commentary blog ‘Runway Conversations’ to make sure we capture thoughts, reviews and ideas that sit outside of our thematic issues! It’s a bit of work and a lot of fun.
WHO: We are a team of six looking for four more people with enthusiasm, energy and a passion for contemporary practice in Australia. Our current board come from an fantastic diverse array of backgrounds (check us out here). In 2017 we are looking to enrich and complement this team with people to help us with ongoing tasks such as:
HOW: Yes, how do we achieve it all? Well, you can expect to spend around 3 hours each week on Runway work, which may vary during peak periods! We also hold once monthly board meetings in Sydney, and by Skype for interstate and international board members. This is a volunteer position, but we each divvy up the key areas of the publication administration, management and editorial commitments with specific roles. Editorial roles change with each new issue. While we are keen for people to make a 2 year commitment, we know life comes up occasionally. We try to buddy up on tasks with new and old board members to ensure corporate knowledge is maintained, everything gets done and it’s mostly fun!
If you have the time and want to do your bit for emerging and experimental art practice, we’d love to hear from you.
