Valentina Palonen is a Finnish-Australian visual artist living and working in Melbourne, Australia. Using a variety of experimental and traditional mediums and processes, her work seeks to reinterpret the complex relationships between humans and the natural environment with overtly artificial colours and materials. She is currently researching experiential and empathetic encounters with the nonhuman world. Valentina has exhibited extensively across a range of gallery spaces, undertaken residencies at the Cité internationale des Arts and the School of Visual and Performing Arts, the University of Tasmania, and has been the recipient of various grants and awards including an Australia Council for the Arts New Work grant. She has completed a Master of Fine Art (by research) at the Victorian College of the Arts, the University of Melbourne, and is currently a PhD candidate at RMIT University. Valentina is represented by Gould Galleries, Melbourne.
