Justin Cooper is a graduate from the National Art School, Sydney, BFA Honours (First Class Awarded). His multidisciplinary practice revolves around the experimentation of process, using varied materials from a wide range of disciplines. Creating new opposing techniques, with a philosophical means of not being tied to any traditional outcome which is understood by known methodologies.
Justin has been a Finalist in the 2010 Doug Moran Portrait Prize and was awarded runner up. In 2012/13 he was selected for the Rick Amor Drawing Prize, Swan Hill Print & Drawing Prize, Hazelhurst Works on Paper Award and the Fluerieu Art Award. He has also completed a residency in Paris at the International Cite Des Arts and was invited by Jam Projects to be part of a mural project in San Diego, Calfornia. His previous exhibiting year’s have included solo shows with Anna Pappas Gallery, Firstdraft Gallery and AM Gallery. In recent times he founded Big Blood Xset an ongoing online experimental electronica collaboration, featuring musician’s from all parts of the globe. Justin also co-founded Woo Bats an alternative punk rock project with HT from Tokyo, Japan.
