Runway Australian Experimental Art is seeking artists’ and writers’ submissions for Issue #24 ISLANDS. For this issue we are seeking innovative interpretations of the meaning, experience and physicality of islands. This could include themes of isolation, subjectivity, separation versus connectivity, self-sufficiency, identity, eco-systems, environments, distance, parochialism, community, or globalisation. We encourage the submission of experimental works that open up new dialogues and suggest new understandings of the island as both a space and as a concept. Whether interpreted literally or metaphorically, we are interested in your take on what an island might mean.
Runway is calling for proposals for written work in either short (up to 1000 words) or long form (up to 2000 words) or other forms (picture essays, video interviews, audio commentaries). We are also calling for artist submissions of projects either recently completed or in development that would be suited to an online experience in some way, shape or form (up to 10 minutes video or sound, or 12 images). Written works can feature images and/or video, and visual works can also include supporting or explanatory text. All works should clearly address the theme of ‘islands’ and be focused on Australian artists, art cultures, art institutions, curatorial ideas and/or artworks. Depending on length of submission, writers will be paid between AUD$150 – $250 for a submission. Be aware, your work may be edited, but this is a collaborative process between the Editor and you. Artists will be paid AUD$200 to publish original submissions of new work or works in progress.
