Power can speak of revolution and change, oppression and manipulation. Power is relative. The powerful and the powerless are categories that shift with perception and experience. In a landscape of funding cuts, skewed representation, political upheaval and social inequality Issue #33 of Runway asks for submissions that resist, engage, question, defend, reshape, contextualise or reveal POWER.

Runway is an online publication that commissions experimental, emerging and engaged content from artists, writers, critics and thinkers from all over Australia, and for Australian artists in an international context. We encourage submissions that engage with the online format of the magazine including videos, web based projects, interactive works, sound recordings of interviews or other, gifs, web disruptions, and standard writing or a mix of all of the above. This is a callout for proposals to create new work for our POWER issue. If your proposal is successful you will be commissioned (paid between $250-400) to create the work proposed for inclusion in issue #33 POWER.

Timing:
+ Content proposals due February 12 2017, 12 midnight.
+ Successful applicants advised mid Feb
+ Final content due mid March
+ Issue launched late March/ early April

Proposals should include:
+ A 200 word proposal – (tell us about your planned project, artwork, essay, letter, conversation, video, sound, gif etc.)
+ A brief bio or CV
+ Some examples of your other work (web link preferable) (optional)

Tips for submitting a proposal:
+ When we say ‘experimental’ we pretty much just mean we are interested in anything from an essay to a letter, to a website or a gif.
+ We are open to anything – if you’re unsure, please ask us questions!
+ All works should be previously unpublished and un-exhibited at the time of publication
+ All submissions should clearly address the theme of POWER as outlined above, and be focused on Australian artists, art cultures, art institutions, curatorial ideas and/or artworks.
+ Please send all proposals or questions through to editorial@runway.org.au

Extra info for custom web proposals:
+ The Runway publication is a WordPress environment. A combination of images, video, audio, animated gifs, animations (flash or edge animate) and hosted web fonts (with licenses) could be used to create rich media, including full screen background video/images, interactive buttons/animations, rollovers/hover states, transitions and animations.
+ WordPress runs off the following languages: HTML, JAVASCRIPT, JQUERY, CSS and PHP.
+ Any custom web contributions should be fully responsive and submissions should include a mock-up of the content and a statement about how the contribution will be achieved (ie. let us know about who will build it – e.g. the artist or an outside developer).

**All accepted submissions will be paid a fee (from $200-$400) for final content.

Please send all proposals or questions through to editorial@runway.org.au
**Due Feb 6  DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEB 12**
