**Proposals for content due 30 November 2017**

**APPLY HERE: https://form.jotform.co/73186243243858**

In an exciting collaboration, Issue #36 of Runway Australian Experimental Art Magazine will be presented in association with the 2018 Keir Choreographic Awards, presented by Carriageworks, Dancehouse and the Keir Foundation. Guest edited by Lizzie Thomson, the issue will be titled DANCE and will function as a reader to accompany the new works presented by the eight semi-finalists.

Runway is an online publication that commissions experimental, emerging and critically engaged content from artists, writers, and thinkers from all over Australia, and that engages with the work of emerging and experimental Australian artists.

This callout is slightly different from our usual issue callouts, so please read the following carefully.

We are looking for:

  • Written essays of between 2000-3000 words, including experimental writing.
  • Artists working with the moving image and interested in making newly commissioned work that explores an aspect of one of the semi-finalists’ practice. These video works will be collaborative, experimental and open. We are looking for all styles of moving image practice.

Proposal Guidelines for written work:

We are looking for essays that provide background and context to current choreographic practices in Australia. Possible areas include:

  • Bodies and embodiment; process and agency
  • Practices of resistance including embodied expressions of queer performance lineages and non-western dance/movement lineages – particularly South East Asian and Indigenous lineages
  • Experimentation with audience/performance relations
  • Philosophies of dance and interactions between dance and philosophy
  • Choreography/dance and the gallery
  • Choreographic works and the non-dancer
  • Investigations into global choreographers who provide context for the 2018 Keir Choreographic Award Artists

As always, we encourage submissions that are experimental in form as well as more traditional writing.

Please include:

  • A 200 word abstract or pitch
  • Your CV
  • A 500 word writing sample from previously published work

Proposal Guidelines for moving image artists:

Artists will need to be available during December and January to collaborate on newly commissioned video work of around 8 minutes (length negotiable). You will be open to collaborating with the other commissioned artists and the editors of the issue during the production of work.

Please include:

  • 150 words on why you’d like to participate in the issue
  • Your CV
  • An example of previous moving image work (5-10 mins)

Timeline:

  • Content proposals due midnight 30 November 2017
  • Successful applications advised Early December 2017
  • Content due 31 January 2018
  • Issue live 1 March 2018

Fees:

  • Essays will receive $400
  • Artists will receive $800

Please direct questions to sarinah@runway.org.au.

Please send all submissions via the submission link at the top of page.
