DEADLINE 12AM SUN 13TH MAY

WHAT:

Runway Australian Experimental Art is an online journal produced by The Invisible Inc., an artist run initiative that aims to promote the activities of Australian artists, writers, and curators both nationally and abroad. Runway is positioned as an Australian experimental art journal, and increasingly our content explores the possibilities of publishing and art practice within the digital realm, alongside supporting more traditional approaches to the idea of artistic experimentation, and text that provokes conversation and critical engagement with contemporary art.

The board of Runway help to produce three thematic digital issues a year for which we commission new artwork, writing, reviews, and ideas, and accompany with a physical launch somewhere around the country with performances, talks, or just a good rollicking party. We also now facilitate a regular commentary platform, Runway Conversations, to make sure we capture thoughts, reviews and ideas that sit outside of our thematic issues.

WHO:

We are a diverse team (check us out here) looking for two more people with enthusiasm, energy and a passion for contemporary practice in Australia. We are looking to enrich and complement the team with people to keen to take up two distinct roles:

  • Conversations Editorial Assistant – In this role you will be assisting and working closely with the Lead of Runway’s Conversations platform in sourcing, creating and editing the content that goes out. This will involve communication with artists, administration, networking, research and editing. The intention for this role is for the current Conversations Lead to share knowledge and provide mentorship, with the view that as the board changes and grows the appointed Editorial Assistant will then lead and mentor.
  • Graphic Designer – In this role you will be creating a visual identity for Runway through our promotional or marketing materials. Tasks may include making updates to the website when needed, creating posters, newsletters, gifs, video content and more.

However the very nature of Runway means we all help out across various areas, especially for new issues. Editorial roles change with each issue and you will have the opportunity take part in different parts of the editorial process throughout your tenure.

Applications from people with a First Nations or CALD background are particularly encouraged.

HOW:

You can expect to spend around 4-8 hours each week on Runway work and, in addition, are expected to attend monthly board meetings (via Skype is fine). As a volunteer board member, we are looking for a 2 year commitment (though we know life comes up occasionally) and in the process you will get to work with clever people and develop some serious skills in publishing and arts administration. We try to buddy up on tasks with new and old board members to ensure corporate knowledge is maintained, everything gets done, and it’s mostly fun!

If you have the time and want to do your bit for emerging and experimental art practice, we’d love to hear from you.

WHEN:

Editorial Assistant – Please send a one page CV, a paragraph about why you want to work with Runway in this role and two writing examples.

Graphic Designer – Please send a one page CV, a paragraph about why you want to work with Runway in this role and a maximum four page pdf of previous work. (Please keep in mind to keep your pdf at a shareable size).

Send this info to talia@runway.org.au by 12am Sunday 13th May.

Please make it clear which role you are most interested in, and don’t hesitate get in touch if you have any questions!
